How Seasons Change Sunrise & Sunset in Spain
Spain follows the northern seasonal clock: longest days around 21 June, shortest around 21 December. At the Madrid reference in 2026, June 21 sunrise is 06:44 AM and sunset 09:48 PM (15h 4m); December 21 is 08:33 AM / 05:50 PM (9h 17m).
Spain observes Daylight Saving Time, so printed sunrise and sunset jump by an hour when the offset changes — on top of the Sun's real seasonal motion.
Latitude still sets day length. In June, Bilbao (43.3° ) has 15h 24m of daylight versus 14h 40m in Málaga (36.7°). In December those figures are 8h 58m and 9h 38m.
Listed cities share one civil timezone, but they still span about 9° of longitude (~35 minutes of true solar time). On 21 June, Palma sunrise is 06:22 AM while Seville is 07:03 AM on the same clock.
Spain sits west of the Greenwich meridian but uses Central European Time, so solar noon and sunset run late on the clock — a political offset, not extra daylight. Seville feels that lag more than Palma.
The result is famously late summer evenings in Madrid and Barcelona. Palma and the south add a milder seasonal swing than Bilbao.
