Travel & photography tips for sunrise and sunset
- Match the coast to the event. East-facing water and ridges for sunrise; west-facing water and calderas for sunset. Bondi and Sanur are dawn beaches. Camps Bay, Kite Beach, and Canggu are dusk beaches.
- Arrive for the shoulder, not the disk minute. Color starts at civil dawn and evening golden hour. Official sunrise and sunset are the midpoint of the show.
- Use the live city clock. If a destination has a page on this site — Dubai, New York, Honolulu, Cape Town, Sydney — open today's sunrise or sunset time there. DST weekends and seasons move the number.
- Height and haze lie. Observation decks see afterglow after the official time. Dust, humidity, and buildings hide the disk a few minutes early or late.
