Santorini’s caldera faces west. That is why Oia, Fira, and Imerovigli are sunset towns: the Sun drops into the Aegean over the flooded volcano. The east coast — Kamari, Perissa, Perivolos — faces the open Aegean at dawn and is the island’s sunrise side. Times below use Fira’s coordinates in Europe/Athens (DST in summer). White walls and cliff edges hide the disk earlier than a sea-level clock; treat official sunset as the planning number, then arrive for golden hour.

East-facing water, desert, or a ridge that is open at dawn. Today's sunrise in Santorini is 06:47 AM (Europe/Athens).
Black sand on the east coast. The Sun comes out of the Aegean, not over the caldera. This is the anti-Oia morning.
Mesa Vouno’s cliff is behind you (west). Face the water. Official sunrise for Fira is close enough to plan the taxi.
Longer east-coast strand than Kamari. Same dawn logic: open water, caldera on the other side of the island.
Quieter than Kamari in shoulder season. Bring shoes — volcanic sand and early wind.

Arrive in evening golden hour, not ten minutes before official sunset. Have an exit plan — the marble paths jam after dark.
Between Fira and Oia. Skaros is a peninsula of volcanic rock with a west view and fewer castle-level elbows.
The walk to Skaros takes time. Start before golden hour. Uneven rock — not a dress-shoe sunset.
The cable-car town. Sunset is still west over the caldera; composition includes cruise ships more often than Oia.
Walk north toward Firostefani for a slightly cleaner angle. Blue hour on the white towns is the second show.
Southwest tip. Caldera and open sea without the Oia amphitheatre of phones.
A drive from Fira. Wind is stronger. The Sun still sets west — you are simply further along the rim.
