How Seasons Change Sunrise & Sunset in Italy
Italy follows the northern seasonal clock: longest days around 21 June, shortest around 21 December. At the Rome reference in 2026, June 21 sunrise is 05:35 AM and sunset 08:48 PM (15h 13m); December 21 is 07:33 AM / 04:41 PM (9h 8m).
Italy observes Daylight Saving Time, so printed sunrise and sunset jump by an hour when the offset changes — on top of the Sun's real seasonal motion.
Latitude still sets day length. In June, Milan (45.5° ) has 15h 41m of daylight versus 14h 49m in Palermo (38.1°). In December those figures are 8h 43m and 9h 31m.
Listed cities share one civil timezone, but they still span about 7° of longitude (~26 minutes of true solar time). On 21 June, Naples sunrise is 05:31 AM while Turin is 05:42 AM on the same clock.
Milan in the Po Valley gets a longer June evening than Palermo in Sicily, while both share Central European Time. Venice and the Alps add a horizon delay the tables do not see.
Winter sunsets in Milan land in the late afternoon on the clock; summer CEST pushes them toward 9:00 PM. Plan golden hour on the city calendar, not on a Rome habit.
