Canada is the world’s second-largest country. It uses six civil time zones and sits far enough north that Edmonton can keep the sky up past 10:00 PM in June and shrink to 7h 28m in December.
St. John’s, Newfoundland (not in this city list) is the usual “first sunrise in North America” headline. Among cities on Sunset Sunrise Today, Halifax is the eastern clock, Vancouver the Pacific one, and Toronto the search-volume middle.

Do not compare 5:06 AM in Vancouver with 5:29 AM in Halifax as if they were simultaneous. Atlantic Time is four hours ahead of Pacific in summer DST. Halifax has already had sunrise when Vancouver is still dark.
Two Stories at Once
Time zones answer “who sees the Sun first?” — east wins in absolute time.
Latitude answers “how long does the day last?” Edmonton (~53.5°N) out-swings Toronto (~43.7°N). That is why Calgary and Edmonton June evenings feel Scandinavian, while Toronto is “merely” 15h 26m.
The territories go further: Whitehorse, Inuvik, and the high Arctic add midnight twilight and polar day. Southern metros on this site are already enough to retire a single “sunrise in Canada” widget.
DST and the Prairie Evening
Most provinces spring forward. Saskatchewan is the usual exception (not in this city list). When DST is on, a 10:07 PM Edmonton sunset is a Mountain Daylight label on a high-latitude geometry. In December the same city is dark by 4:15 PM — plan the commute, not a golden-hour picnic.

Canada’s Sun is early in Nova Scotia, late on the Pacific, and extravagant on the prairies in June. The clock map is large on purpose. Use the city, not the country average.
