Solar & Astronomical Facts About Pakistan
- 1Northern valleys like Hunza enjoy dramatic sunrise glow over 7,000-meter Himalayan peaks.
- 2Karachi experiences very consistent sunset times due to its southern latitude near 24° N.
- 3Pakistan operates on Pakistan Standard Time (PKT, UTC+5) year-round.
How Seasons Change Sunrise & Sunset in Pakistan
Pakistan follows the northern seasonal clock: longest days around 21 June, shortest around 21 December. At the Islamabad reference in 2026, June 21 sunrise is 04:58 AM and sunset 07:21 PM (14h 23m); December 21 is 07:08 AM / 05:02 PM (9h 54m).
Pakistan keeps a fixed civil offset year-round, so clocks do not jump in spring or autumn. Seasonal sunrise changes come from Earth's tilt and orbit, not from Daylight Saving Time.
Latitude still sets day length. In June, Peshawar (34.0° ) has 14h 25m of daylight versus 13h 41m in Karachi (24.9°). In December those figures are 9h 53m and 10h 36m.
Listed cities share one civil timezone, but they still span about 8° of longitude (~30 minutes of true solar time). On 21 June, Sialkot sunrise is 04:56 AM while Quetta is 05:31 AM on the same clock.
Pakistan Standard Time (UTC+5) is year-round. Karachi near 24°N barely notices the seasons; Peshawar in the north feels winter mornings more. Longitude still matters: Karachi sits west of Lahore, so solar noon runs later on the same PKT clock.
Hunza and other northern valleys add terrain: official sunrise assumes a flat horizon, while 7,000 m peaks can delay the first visible disk. Check the city page, then add the ridgeline.
