Bangladesh is much narrower than India, but it still uses one Bangladesh Standard Time — `Asia/Dhaka`, UTC+6, no Daylight Saving Time. The Sun still prefers the east. Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong print a slightly earlier dawn than Khulna; Rangpur notices winter more than the coast.
If you learned sunrise from a Delhi app, throw it out. BST is half an hour ahead of IST, and the Bay of Bengal horizon is not the Yamuna.

The east–west clock gap among listed cities is minutes, not India’s hour. The photography gap is larger: Cox’s Bazar faces open water; Dhaka often faces haze.
One Clock, a Short Longitude
Bangladesh spans roughly 4–5° of longitude among these cities — about 15–20 minutes of true solar time. That is why Dhaka 5:13 AM and Cox’s Bazar 5:11 AM in June look almost the same. The national clock is a fair match to the geography, unlike IST stretched across 29°.
Latitude is the quieter split. Rangpur (~25.7°N) has the longest June day on the list (13h 44m) and the shortest December day (10h 32m). Cox’s Bazar (~21.4°N) stays closer to 12 hours year-round.
Cox’s Bazar, the Padma, and Fog
- Cox’s Bazar: the headline sunrise beach. Official times assume a flat horizon; a good morning still needs a clear Bay.
- Dhaka: winter fog and river mist can hide the disk after tabulated sunrise. Popular places help with viewpoints, not with the physics of haze.
- Chittagong / Sitakunda hills: a ridge can delay visible sunrise after the official time.
- Sylhet: slightly east, slightly early — useful if you are comparing tea-garden dawn with the capital.
Prayer times and photography both want the geometric disk plus local horizon. Tables on this site are the geometric part.
How to Check BST Times
- Open Sunrise & Sunset in Bangladesh.
- Jump to Dhaka, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Sylhet, or Rangpur.
- Use the month calendar for twilight and golden hour — tropical golden hour is short.
- Do not reuse an IST (India) alarm. BST is UTC+6; IST is UTC+5:30.
Bangladesh does not need two time zones. It needs a city name and a horizon. Once you have those, 5:13 AM in Dhaka and a Cox’s Bazar beach dawn are the same Sun on a clock that actually fits the map.
